But, as a Sporting CP fan, this season we played Atalanta 4 times, in Europa League, and they were definitely a team that I kept admiring. Although we left with the feeling that we should've won both away matches (drew in group stage, and lost in the 2nd leg of the final 16), Atalanta proved to be able to impose a dominant and cynical style of play. Sporting was has been a joy to watch play under Rúben Amorim, but the 1st half of our 1st match against Atalanta was the most I've seen Sporting being dominated in many years

Albeit he's mellowed down a lot since his Inter days his philosophy still requires high intensity training sessions and a complete buy in from his players to be effective. The slightest issue and whole system falls. Kinda like Emery, I think Gasperini can bring a mid table team to challange for great things with his tactics and philosophy, but will struggle, in big teams, to get lots of big personalities to do the same and end up not achieving the same levels

There are some weird claims as far as formation goes. At 2:38 you say they play a 3atb system and you can clearly see Grimaldo on the left in the seventh stripe on the field. 12 seconds later you say they're a 4atb system (that now includes Grimaldo) and he's....in the same position? He's in the same place, but you claim he's not part of the defensive line, then suddenly he is? I see this a lot in football analysis where people just kinda of connect the dots however seems convenient in their explanation. Pretty much all the positional formations you showed are straight out of Peps handbook. They press out of possession, so does everybody...and you didn't mention relationism at all bar the opening sequence. This is just Pepball. Positional play with OOP pressing, maybe with more of a focus on overload to isolate??? but that's about it. At 9:36 you show the 3-2-5 that won City the treble last season. With the same concepts of allowing a defender to move into the midfield like you showed with Kassounou. The only real difference is OOP, when they can't get it back through the press, they resort to a 5-4-1. Bringing Frimpong all the way back into the defensive line, whilst City play a 4-4-2. Teams just don't sit deep like they do against City, yet.

Gasperini's been implementing & successfully developing this ultra offensive football style for many more years than just these 8 seasons with LA Dea! Most evident was with Genoa, when he took them to 4th place and gave them UCL season, more than 10 years ago. He's one of the main reasons (along with coaches like Sarri, Zeman...) who spawned many Italian coaches who play very offensively in Serie A, from Juric to Motta and. who knows how. many more in between, which made the unimaginable real = to. convert Serie A (and Italian football in general) from strictly defensive minded (and slow and. boring) into one of the most offensive and goal prolific leagues in these 10 years! And the things he's been doing with Atalanta, makes. me wanna answer ur question from the end of the video right away - I'd love to see him be at the helm of La Dea for many more years. Not just that he converted them into goal scoring machine, but also be great entertainers - I've yet to see an Atalanta match that's boring, even in those rare occasions when it finishes 0-0. And he's been present in Europe all the time (either UCL, or EL) with great success, sometimes even crushing teams with many scored goals. And all of that, with selling some of the best players each summer Mercato, but for huge amounts of money, which allows them. to reinvest. And along with their brilliant academy (one of the top 3 in Europe for years now), their scouting system is nearly perfect, so they always invest those money cleverly.. Just look at the last Mercato. They made over 100 millions by selling (majority was from 75 +10 for Hojlund), and then bought 3, or 4 new players for around 80 to 85 millions. As you've said it, his ability to improve the players, to raise their level of game and take out 110% of their talent & potential, is simply stunning (that's why I was saying that Hojlund needed at least 1 more season in La Dea shirt, possibly 2, to turn into a world. class striker, before going to Man-U, a club that puts its players down, ON A REGULAR BASIS - 90+% of their players start playing bad and getting worse when they get in that team). Last Mercato, when he decided to get Dr Katelare, I "knew" that he would. turn him. back to his best, but when he decided to buy Scamacca, I was so skeptical, thinking: "Why would Atalanta splash 35 million like that on a player who was quite unsatisfactory in West Ham - although I knew he played the 1at half of the season with constant injury, and then went on under a knife... - and during New Year, he was the same in Atalanta as he was in West Ham. But ever since January, and especially last 2+ months, he turned into a beast who can't stop scoring! And that's one more proof that Gasperini is maestro of a coach. So, I'd love to watch him keep on doing this (although I'm. aware that if he was doing that in Napoli, Milan, Juve... and those type of. clubs in England, Germany... he would've get many rewards.) He doesn't get constant chances to fight for trophies (that's why I'd love to see him this Wednesday lifting the Coppa Italia trophy, and as he said, the most important - EL vs Leverkuzen), maybe he'll never win a Scudetto, but surely, one day his statue will be present at Gewiss, Atalanta's new, renivated beautifully stadium! A manager have long admired and baffled as to why no clubs go for him. Clubs just outside rich 7 Prem should go for him as very few coaches take teams from mud lower table into top 4-7 and then maintain it over several seasons. Eg De Zerbi now not replicating success .
